Magnetophobia – an irrational belief

by | Jun 19, 2019 | History

Magnetophobia is the irrational belief that static magnetic fields produce no physiological effects or have no therapeutic benefits. The colourful history of magnetic field therapy contributes to this belief and is sustained by misinformation and the complexity of the subject matter.

When you have an understanding of Mesmerism and the history of magnetic therapy, you can appreciate why such an irrational belief exists.

But there are good reasons why magnetic field therapy is a new frontier in medical research, providing valuable health benefits.

Click Herefor why magnetism is a new frontier in medical research.

We have previously shown how media articles on magnetic fields seem to carry double standards. Shying away from discussing, how for instance they might be used to treat knee pain. While praising them for new and emerging therapies like treating migraines. See article here.

Recently a Canadian university published a study showing how low-field magnetic stimulation could help recovery from concussion. The medical researchers said…

“Patients can suffer long-lasting cognitive impairments, emotional and behavioural changes. Currently, we do not have effective treatment to improve the cognitive impairment. Low frequency magnetic stimulation provides a novel option for concussion treatment. It is portable, non-invasive and affordable.”

This is quite an exciting prospect, but let’s be honest it still early days and the initial trial was on mice. You can see the actual clinical trials for humans using static magnets here. But still, have a look at all the glowing articles that sprung up over the internet with this concussion study on mice…
