Osteoarthritis of the knee leads to inflammation of the soft tissue that surrounds the joint. This is why weight loss is often one of the best remedies for knee pain. But when a painful knee makes it painful to exercise, it can be a catch-22.

- Knee replacement surgery should only be as a last resort
- Advise strongly against using opioids
- Avoid using diagnostic imaging as much as possible – MRI, x-ray etc.
